Can Belotero Injections Treat Wrinkles?

The use of fillers has increased dramatically in the past few years, with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons showing that there is an average of 2.6 million filler injections each year in the United States.

It’s not difficult to see why they’re so popular. Fillers can offer many benefits for people who have signs of aging, like wrinkles, fine lines, and even facial volume loss.

At Cell Theory: Institute of Cellular & Aesthetic Medicine, one of our most popular fillers is Belotero. What is Belotero? Learn more about this option and what it can treat.

What Is Belotero?

Belotero is a dermal filler that contains a hyaluronic acid base. It received FDA approval for the treatment of nasolabial folds in 2016, but since then, the company has created a line of fillers of various consistencies to treat different types of lines.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are some of the most popular because of how the acid can cling to your skin while attracting water molecules, maintaining the volume the filler offers. Because hyaluronic acid is already present in human bodies, it can offer more natural results.

Hyaluronic acid in your skin diminishes with age, along with collagen and elastin. All of this causes your skin to lose its firmness and start sagging, making it easier for wrinkles and lines to develop. With Belotero fillers, you can regain that lost volume in the treatment areas, filling in wrinkles and smoothing out your skin.

Belotero can help treat:

  • Nasolabial folds
  • Chin wrinkles
  • Lip lines
  • Forehead lines

It can also help reduce the appearance of under-eye bags and offer the kind of volume you want for your lips. It can also be an effective treatment for some kinds of acne scars.

Belotero Balance can help treat glabellar lines, nasolabial folds, and other moderate wrinkles, while Belotero Volume focuses on restoring lost facial volume in the cheeks and chin. For deeper lines, we recommend Belotero Intense, while people who want lip volume and definition should turn to Belotero Lip Contour.

The best candidates for Belotero injections are people who have realistic expectations, who are in overall good health, and want to treat signs of aging, like wrinkles and lost facial volume.

If you are allergic to any of the filler’s ingredients, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have bleeding disorders, we will help you find an alternative treatment.

Benefits of Belotero

As minimally-invasive procedures, Belotero injections allow you to get results without undergoing surgery and without having to take time off of your regular activities to recover. It is also a quick procedure, with the injections taking just a few minutes.

Belotero has a line of fillers made to treat certain types of aging signs. With so many options, we can offer the exact injections you need at our clinic to help you address specific areas.

The results of Belotero fillers are also immediate and long-lasting. Many people enjoy them for up to a year.

Preparing for Belotero Fillers

We ask that you schedule a consultation with us to see if you are a good candidate for Belotero. During the consultation, we will ask you about any medications you take, any previous cosmetic procedures you may have had, and for an overview of your medical history.

If we think that you can benefit from Belotero, we will recommend that you stop taking any medications or supplements that can thin your blood, especially ibuprofen, fish oil, and aspirin.

You also want to avoid anything that can make your skin more sensitive, including bleaching, waxing, tweezing, getting chemical peels, and even using products that contain salicylic acid. At least two days before the injections, it is a good idea to stop drinking alcohol.

The Belotero Procedure

Come to your appointment without makeup, creams, lotions, or other substances on your face. We will clean your face, and if you want it, we can apply a topical anesthetic.

We will use a fine gauge needle syringe to inject the Belotero into the predetermined treatment areas. Depending on where we inject the filler, we may massage the area after the injections to help spread out the substance.

The entire procedure can take between 15 minutes to an hour, depending on what we treat.

Right after the procedure, you can return to most of your regular activities. For 24 hours after the appointment, we recommend you avoid strenuous activities that can make you sweat, as well as sun and heat exposure. You also want to avoid NSAIDs and blood thinners for a day and abstain from drinking alcohol.

For some people, applying an ice pack throughout the first day after the injections can help.

How Long Does Belotero Last?

You should start seeing results almost immediately after the injections. Belotero can last between six months and a year, depending on your own metabolism, the injection sites, and the type of filler you receive. In some areas of the face that move a lot, like around your lips, the filler may last closer to six months.
