Dermal fillers like Radiesse can be a powerful solution for combating signs of aging. Even though visible signs of aging can be difficult to accept, reversing them can be easy. Skin laxity and volume loss are the main culprits that can cause everything from a dull, lackluster complexion to wrinkles and creases.

However, dermal fillers are designed to restore volume to areas of the face, from thin lips to sunken cheeks, to create a natural, renewed, more youthful appearance. At Cell Theory: Institute of Cellular & Aesthetic Medicine, we offer a wide variety of dermal fillers, one of which is Radiesse.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

These products are gel-like solutions that are injected into the sub-dermal layers of the skin to fill out the contours of the face. They also restore skin volume and achieve other aesthetic goals, such as smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.

Many dermal filler products are formulated with elements that mimic those that are naturally found in the skin, such as hyaluronic acid. These elements encourage natural elastin and collagen production. By using dermal fillers that contain these elements, long-lasting results are produced.

Treatment with dermal fillers like Radiesse in Miami, FL, is customizable, so patients are able to zero in on their precise aesthetic concerns and goals. In general, these fillers are used to address just about all signs of aging, and they all can be used in various specific areas, such as the lips, chin, jawline, forehead, nose, and in between the eyebrows.

What Is Radiesse?

One of the most popular dermal fillers we offer is Radiesse. It’s the first and only filler that contains calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) that is approved by the FDA for use in the hands as well as the face. Radiesse filler is unique because it contains microspheres of CaHA that produce collagen when introduced to skin tissues.

Most other dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, which is also an excellent ingredient. CaHA gives immediate results with contouring and filling that look very natural.

A Radiesse injection effectively treats moderate-to-deep wrinkles and promotes suppleness in the treated areas. If you have areas of the face or hands that look hollow or sunken, this dermal filler can round out those areas and improve contouring.

How Does Radiesse Filler Work?

One of the most promising features of Radiesse injections is the ability to promote collagen and elastin production in the body. It doesn’t just fill in spaces but also encourages your body to regain some of its natural ability to rejuvenate its own cells. Some other injectables only fill in areas, doing nothing to help the body work its own magic.

Radiesse filler is a water-based gel, so it’s very gentle and well-tolerated. While, at first, the Radiesse gel produces beautiful results by filling in spaces, eventually, the collagen of the body takes over.

As your skin produces more of its own collagen, which is the body’s natural “dermal filler,” Radiesse creates a framework or matrix for the collagen to integrate into the skin. This actually resembles the body’s own connective tissue.

The microspheres in the gel are absorbed and processed by the body after several months, leaving that collagen framework in place. This means that patients can enjoy results that last for a year or longer and up to two years for some people.

What Does Radiesse Treat?

Our patients come to us for Radiesse in Miami, FL, to treat a variety of areas of the face as well as the hands and enjoy long-lasting results. Some of the most common areas we treat with this dermal filler include:

  • Lines at the sides of the mouth that run to the chin (marionette lines)
  • The backs of the hands
  • Pre-jowl folds and chin wrinkles
  • The temples
  • The cheeks
  • The jawline
  • Downturned corners of the mouth (oral commissures)

In addition, many patients treat their nasolabial folds with Radiesse. These folds are the creases that run from the lower corners of the nose down to the corners of the mouth.

What to Expect During Your Treatment

Appointments for dermal filler treatments take 20-30 minutes on average, so you won’t have to rearrange your whole day to receive this beneficial aesthetic boost.

We will begin by thoroughly cleaning your skin, and a topical numbing cream will be applied to ensure you’re comfortable. Depending on the specific treatment and your goals, we’ll use anywhere from one-half to a full syringe.

Then, we will administer the Radiesse injection(s) in the targeted treatment areas, and that’s it! There is no hefty downtime or recovery time required. Our patients typically leave our office and return directly to their daily routines.

Most of our patients see optimal results within one or two weeks, but you’ll likely notice some initial results right away. Certain formulations produce results that continue to improve over the course of several weeks.

As stated, results typically can last between one to two years, with the average being 12-18 months. It’s important to note that areas of the face that move more, such as the lips and mouth, will maintain results for slightly less time than areas that don’t move as much, such as the cheeks.
