Cellulite plagues both men and women, but what is it? Well, cellulite is a collection of fat that pushes against the connective tissue under your skin. It is this collection of fat that makes your skin look lumpy and uneven. Cellulite is often difficult to get rid of, no matter how much exercise you do. Thankfully, QWO cellulite injections can effectively reduce the appearance of cellulite on your thighs and buttocks. At Cell Theory: Institute of Cellular & Aesthetic Medicine, we offer QWO treatments to help you look and feel your best. Contact us online or visit us in Miami, FL, for your QWO treatment.

Where Does Cellulite Come From?

Septae, or bands of collagen, are responsible for connecting your skin and muscles. While collagen is great for making your skin tighter and firmer, it is also to blame for cellulite. When fat grows between these collagen bands, they tighten the connective tissue between your skin and muscles, leading to that lumpy look of cellulite. We may blame the fat for cellulite, but collagen is the villain.

90% of women are affected by cellulite, while it only affects 10% of men. This is because the connective tissues in women are at 90-degree angles to one another. Since women have a higher distribution of fat in their legs, waist, and buttocks, cellulite affects them more. On the other hand, men have a crisscross connective tissue pattern, which provides better structural support to their fat and skin.

What is QWO Anyway?

QWO, or collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes, is an FDA-approved injectable. It uses collagenase enzymes to get to the source of cellulite by targeting the structures. The enzymes go straight to the collagen to break it apart and release its grip on your skin. This eliminates the lumps caused by cellulite.

The enzymes in QWO also stimulate new collagen production and redistribute fat cells. You need collagen to keep your skin tight and youthful. Your skin will look much smoother once the fat is distributed.

Who is a Good Candidate for QWO Cellulite Treatments?

If you are struggling with moderate to severe cellulite, you can benefit from QWO for cellulite reduction. This treatment is suitable for men and women and people of all skin types. However, it is not a skin-tightening treatment. We understand that sagging skin may appear to be cellulite, but it is different. These treatments are not suitable for pregnant or nursing women, or women planning to become pregnant. Visit us for a consultation so we can determine if you are an ideal candidate for QWO cellulite treatments.

Preparing for Your QWO Treatment

The first step of your QWO journey is an initial consultation with us. During this session, we will assess your medical history, discuss your desired outcome, and explain the procedure in detail. You should let us know about any chronic medication, vitamins, and supplements you take. You will need to stop taking ibuprofen, aspirin, and other medication that thins your blood two weeks before your procedure.

You will also need to stop drinking alcohol and smoking two days before your treatment. You should avoid waxing, shaving, laser hair removal, and depilatory creams on the day of your treatment. It is best to wear loose and comfortable clothing and not apply lotion to the area being treated.

Your QWO Treatment

On the day of your QWO treatment, we will take photos before we administer the injections and mark all your cellulite dimples. You will then be asked to lay on your stomach as we inject the QWO into the fat. We will only treat 6 to 12 dimples per buttock. Your QWO session will take about 30 minutes, plus an extra 5 minutes after the procedure.

After Your QWO Treatment

After your QWO treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise and showering for at least 24 hours. You want to try to keep your core temperature and heart rate at a steady level. Avoid shaving the treated area for at least four days after the procedure. It is best not to take a bath for about a week after the treatment. We also recommend you avoid sun exposure or tanning beds for about two weeks.

You will need to return for a follow-up session 3 to 4 weeks after your QWO injections. If you are still not satisfied with your cellulite, we can schedule more sessions until you are. The number of treatments you need depends on the degree of your cellulite. Most patients need about 3 treatments 21 days apart.

The Results

The results of your QWO treatment will not be instantly visible. They will appear gradually over the next three to four months. Some patients claim to see results after a month, but it takes longer for the enzymes to completely break down the collagen bands. You can expect the results to last about six months to a year. Many patients combine QWO with other fat-reduction treatments to rid their bodies of stubborn fat and cellulite.
